Dewey Apple Dumplings

The pan size in this recipe is important to get the liquid level right, in my opinion. I think HEB has this size in a throw-away aluminium pan. I bake this so often that I bought a pan at the restaurant supply store. I also bought a half-size for baking a half recipe for smaller groups.

Ingredients
  • 4 Granny Smith Apples peeled, quartered, and cored
  • 2 cans Pillsbury Crescent Rolls 8 to a can
  • 2 sticks Butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 1 1/4 cups Sugar
  • Cinnamon and nutmeg To taste
  • 1 can Mt. Dew Soda 12 oz.
Directions
Microwave prepared apples for 2-4 min. to start to soften. Toss with cinnamon and nutmeg. Roll 1 slice of apple lengthwise in each triangle of crescent roll. Place all in a sprayed with Pam, 11x17 inch pan. Melt butter and mix with sugar and vanilla. Pour over dumplings, and then pour the can of Mt. Dew over the whole thing. Sprinkle more cinnamon and nutmeg over the top of the dumplings for color. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 min. Serve each dumpling warm with a scoop of Blue Bell Vanilla.
